Development
Inspired by a variety of exercise related media, 'Pain 4 Gain' was my first attempt developing a small collection of bite sized minigames. In P4G, the player participates in exercise themed minigames in order to increase different muscle level stats.
I had been wanting to make a minigame collection game for a while as I thought it would be a great way to develop my game design skills through making lots of small games in a short time frame.
However I quickly realised that developing multiple minigames was actually alot more time consuming and challenging than I had initially thought. The biggest reason for this, was the jasdkjhbkjasdhb. For example: A when developing a 2D platformer (Super Mario Bros let say), once you have programmed in an enemy or created a sprite for block, you can easily reuse that enemy and sprite across multiple levels throughout the whole game, increasing the efficiency of development. I found that I had really limited spaces were I could afford to do this sort of thing. Since I couldn't really use scripts I'd already programmed or sprites + animations I'd made, when it came time to create another minigame, I would be starting completly from scratch. Additionally, since all the minigames didn't have a lot of cross over in terms of reusability, the amount of bugs present in the game increased while the amount of time spent polishing was decreased as I could afford to spend time polishing when the game was finished.
