Development
'Sky Isles' was a game that I developed myself in 6 weeks as part of the 'Working to a Brief' unit of study at the AIE Game development Course. This project involved following a chosen brief and communicating to a "Client" (course educator) to develop a game for said client.
The brief I chose to follow was to create a Turn ‘Based’ strategy game that needed to involve at least 2 sides taking turns to complete actions as well as including the concept of ‘Base’ somewhere in the idea. The game I initially pitched was local co-op, turn based strategy game where 1 player had to take control of their given troops to protect a Sky Whale traversing the level while the other team had to defeat the sky whale before it reaches its destination.
At the beginning I had to organize meetings with the client to pitch the game idea, discuss how I have/will meet the brief, how I will be able to complete the development on time as well as weekly checkups on progress and discussions of changes.
When developing the idea, I conducted a risk assessment analysis on the project to determine the risks of the project. This helped to scope out the game development and provided me with plenty of countermeasures and risk mitigations for each of the risks. This proved extremely beneficial as due to the difficulty to program the turns, movement and combat for the game for my skill level, I had to cut the sky whale part out of the project which was something that I had foreseen and had countermeasures in place to ensure that the project would be complete on time.
